Ancillary - Billboard 2

This was our SECOND billboard idea, which again involved our main story line between Mickey, Rhino and Chandelier. The DARK BACKGROUND connotes the DARKNESS and NEGATIVITY of the story line and gives the billboard a SINISTER feel. The EYE CONTACT between the two male females shows their CONFLICT, with Chandelier in the middle to show what they are fighting about. We also used a SLOGAN "Who's the Daddy" which links our billboard to our MAGAZINE as this is the quote that ANCHORS our main feature.

We found this Hollyoaks billboard as INSPIRATION for our idea as it used the DARK colours to highlight the DRAMA of the story line. The channel 4 LOGO is used to show brand identity, just as we used the E4 logo and a SLOGAN is used to give the audience a HINT of what's going to happen, intriguing them and making then want to TUNE IN.

Ancillary - Front Cover

The pictures show the RELATIONSHIP between the three characters CLEARLY. We felt that the second picture worked better than the first as the characters were CLOSER together which made their relationship EASIER to recognise. Chandelier (Kate) is giving EYE CONTACT to the reader which shows that the story line is based around her as the other two characters aren't looking into the camera. Rhino's (Matt E)  FACIAL IMPRESSION highlights his EMOTION which is clearly anger, as he is at the back of the picture looking onto Chandelier and Mickey (Matt B) it's clear that he is angry about their RELATIONSHIP. This picture makes the story line clear as Mickey's hand is placed onto the bump to indicate that he is the father of the child. Also, we decided to put make-up onto one side of Mickey's face to show his SPLIT PERSONALITY, as we learn in the trailer that he cross dresses.

These were two pictures we took for our front cover, we decided to use the love triangle story line as our main concentration for the magazine cover.

We took INSPIRATION from the TV Easy magazine, using BRIGHT COLOURS to make our magazine stand out. The use of bright colours also highlights the sense of a PARODY and the other storylines are from other soaps created in our class.

Ancillary - Billboard 1

This was our first billboard idea, which gave the audience a sneak peek at the characters involved in our soap. By having the INDIVIDUAL PICTURES, this CREATED CHARACTERISTICS for each person which could be perceived by the audience. The billboard also includes the E4 BRANDING.

This was our FINAL billboard. From the original, we changed the PICTURE OF CHANDELIER (Kate) so that she displayed her baby bump. Also, we added a SLOGAN to our billboard which adds INTERTEXTUALITY as the quote "anything could happen in Ivywood" is said in the trailer. This gives the audience something to FAMILIARISE with the soap

We wanted to use a style similar to these posters as they are also aimed at the SAME AUDIENCE as our soap. The way the characters are split up into their own part of the poster helps give them an INDIVIDUALITY and this is what we wanted to be able to do with our billboard. Also, Glee has been on E4.

This E4 STYLE GUIDE helped us with the CONVENTIONS we needed to create their branding on our billboard.

Location Shots

Choosing a song (title is link)

SONG CHOICE: THE WANTED - WARZONE

LYRICS
I can't believe I had to see
The girl of my dreams cheating on me
The pain you caused has left me dead inside
I'm gonna make sure you regret that night

In our house, I hate that place
Everywhere I walk I see your face
Try to erase a memory with a flame
And hope I never see you again

WHY I CHOSE THIS
I chose this song for my soundtrack because I felt that the
lyrics fitted the story perfectly as our main story line between Rhino,
Chandelier and Mickey includes a love triangle with cheating and heartbreak.
The song also starts off slow and gets faster throughout which adds
to the suspense and tension of the trailer.

Billboard - Preparation

When we were planning our billboard as a group, we decided to plan TWO DIFFERENT LAYOUTS which would then give us a chance to COMPARE THE TWO  and pick which one we thought was the MOST EFFECTIVE.

Kate drew up a brief plan of each of our ideas. We looked at creating a billboard that concentrated on what we believed was OUR MAIN STORY LINE (the love triangle between Rhino, Chandelier and Mickey), we then looked at creating a billboard that showcased EACH CHARACTER INDIVIDUALLY
Matt Beckwith came up with a DETAILED PLAN for each of our billboard ideas. This is the plan for the billboard showing each character, we decided that by having a MCU OF EACH CHARACTER, this could enable the audience to become interested in them before they've seen the trailer through FACIAL EXPRESSION and BODY LANGUAGE.
This is the plan for the billboard including our main story line. This billboard includes a CLOSE UP of Rhino and Mickey from the side with Chandelier standing between the two of them to HIGHLIGHT THEIR LOVE TRIANGLE. We also included the TWITTER REFERENCE which shows that the soap is aimed at a YOUNGER AUDIENCE, just like the types of programmes usually shown on E4.

TV Magazine - Preparation

This is an example of an already existing soap magazine front cover.
This shows some front cover CONVENTIONS: main story line anchored cover stars, tabs showing each day of the week, masthead in the first 3rd of the page, other soaps around the cover.

This is our groups mind-map that we put together to create an idea of what we wanted to NAME our magazine and to also give us an idea of the LAYOUT of our front cover.

Matt Beckwith drew up a DETAILED PLAN for our front cover which included some of the CONVENTIONS shown on the 'TV Easy' magazine.

Ivywood - Rough Cut

This is the rough cut for my trailer 'Ivywood', the rough includes the RAW FOOTAGE of my trailer without any title cards or transitions. However, my soundtrack had already been selected so this is shown in my rough cut.

Final Piece - Preperation

As a group, we created storyboards to outline what SHOT TYPES we wanted to use throughout the scenes and in which order.

This was the storyboard for our CROSS-DRESSING SCENE, involving Mickey (Matt B) and Rosé (Laura).

This is the storyboard for the scene involving Chandelier (Kate) FINDING OUT SHE'S PREGNANT and then telling her  boyfriend Rhino (Matt E). This storyboard also contains the shot types for RHINO'S DISTRAUGHT SCENE.

This was the storyboard for a scene that we LATER DECIDED TO CUT from our trailer. The scene supposed to involve Angel (Kerrianne) and Kim (Katie), we didn't shoot this scene as we felt that it didn't fit with the rest of our storylines.

We created a shooting schedule to ensure that we didn't miss any scenes out whilst filming, it included WHERE the shots were being filmed and WHO was taking part in each scene. This helped us gain a sense ORGANISATION  therefore we could PRIORITISE each scene.

Kate wrote a DETAILED BRIEFING for each of the scenes, again this shows the planning for the drug scene which was later cut.

Final Piece - Planning

LAURA MCCANN, KATE TROLLOPE, KERRIANNE TATTON, KATIE HENDERSON, MATT EWING, MATT BECKWITH

CHARACTERS:
· Matt B: Mickey

· Matt E: Rhino

· Katie H: Kim

· Kerrianne: Angel

· Kate: Chandelier

STORYLINES:
- Mickey is a cross dresser and likes to dress up in Rosé’s clothes when she isn’t at home. She is unaware that Mickey likes to dress up as a woman and is soon to be married to him. Rosé finally walks in on Mickey wearing her favourite dress.

- Rhino is known as a player. Chandelier is known as a stereotypical ‘dumb blonde’ but also a bit of a slag. Rhino has a one night stand with Chandelier at a party and she ends up pregnant. Rhino doesn’t take the news well and finds out via the text, ‘I’m preggers. LOL!’

- Kim is the local drug dealer and is trying to persuade Angel that taking drugs is good. Angel thinks she is a born again Christian and tells Kim to turn to the Bible for answers.
